Those extra touches make a house a home when you are creating a nest to retire in. Sizing down before our move was neccesito! Before we moved to Chapala we gladly gave away masses of attic and closet items. Noe Ortega is the highly regarded craftsman who has marveled me with his use of color when commissioned to build special show pieces for our modest home. With most construction completed, it has been FUN to tuck special art into
our decor. He came to my casa to take the time to create unique wall hangings for photo frames and to hang my costume jewelery on. He also repaired shipping damaged furniture with his fabulous artistic flair. His art studio is in Riberas del Pilar, across from Mom's cafe off the Carretera #116. Bring your ideas to Noe and he will work wonders that will surpass all your best imaginings. Noe also offers free delivery around Lakeside. Each work of art he creates is signed and one day his signature will be highly valued. His studio is open from Monday to Friday from 9:30 am - 6:00 pm. Call Noe and make it a point to enjoy your home. Cell 331-757-7704

FUN under Big Top
Growing up, it was a summer thrill to go to the Circus. In the 1940's, in Europe, you could have been astonished to witness Maria Herzig walk a tight rope between sky scrapers. Maria is my mother, and when my dad from Arkansas
saw this lovely German girl, he brought her home to the USA, where she employed her bravado as the brave woman in the local summer Circus that was strapped to a cross while knives were thrown at her. The annual circus held in Ajijic is much more polished than what I experienced in my youth. It was exciting to introduce my husband Michael to the magnificient BIG TENT of CIRCO UNION as it was his first circus experience ever! Mike has a fascination with elephants. Before the show began,
I was happy to capture his thrill to walk beside the enormity of this jungle beast. During the show they allowed kids from the audience to climb atop the elephant for a memorable picture. The multi-talented and multi-tasking clowns made all the young at heart laugh out loud and then oooh and ahhh when they changed costumes to fly across the canopy on the trapeze. The Magician was fantastic, the Jugglers were amazing and the energy and the music was high!!! It is well worth the price of 100 pesos and better than ho hum TV at home!

Barra de Navidad
In January 2015 Barb's doctor Ben prescribed a few days at the beach in order to kick her bronchitis cough. After some research, we selected "The Alondra Hotel" in Barra de Navidad, which is on hwy 200 just 20 minutes up from Manzanillo towards the beach town of Melaque. Our GPS gave us the best route out of Chapala to the Hotel address: Sinaloa 16, Barra de Navidad, Jalisco 48987. Hotel phone: 315-355-8373. We were able to
book online thru Expedia using our Bancomer debit card without a charge, so we simply pay at hotel. THIS HOTEL was devastated by Hurricane Patricia in Octorber 2015. The Alondra is Oceanside. When inquiring to book any hotel in Barra de Navidad, or Melaque, inquire about repairs and the prices may have drastically changed. Our preference at the Alondra was the second floor room 230 or 231. The balcony is closest to the roar of the ocean. From Chapala it is a 5 hour drive, on a safe four lane TOLL highway. The mountains and coconut grove views on both sides is spectacular. Prepare change for 3 toll booths at 125 pesos each. Hwy 110 thru Colima, to hwy 200 past Manzanillo, to Barra de Navidad. The 5,000 residents of this quaint, quiet, clean and friendly village could use your support.

King of Colima
Friar Martin de Jesus accepted Don
Alonso's invitation to dine at his casa which is called the "Amatitlan
Hacienda" in the town of Usmajac just 4 kilometers from Sayula, which is
near Colima. The Ceballos Hotel in
Colima has a lot of history. It
sits in front of one of the many churches that Friar Martin de Jesus built and it is close to Comala, a Pueblo Magico city that has ancient ruins to view. The province of Avalos was a royal grant by the King of Spain to Alonso de Avalos. The land grant extended from Lake Chapala up to Tapalpa and included the two wealthiest towns of Atoyac and Sayula. The Friars who came to Mexico in 1530 were selfless and truly charitable. They did not come to acquire
riches, they came to save souls. They built churches, convents, hospitals, and water ways via new aqueducts and schools. They taught the indigenous Indians farming, building techniques as they defended the Indians from the abuses of the owners of the land grants. They lived simply and walked everywhere they went. Imagine walking from Lake Chapala to Tapalpa? Friar Martin de Jesus walked to the Kingdom of Michoacan and founded a convent by the shore of Lake Patzcuaro and evangelized the kingdoms west of Michoacan. The Friar founded the church in Ajijic and the building was completed in 1539. There is so much rich history about our lakeside villages. A book entitled "Ajijic, 500 Years of Adventures" was compiled by A. Bateman and N. Bollenbach.
